About Me
Alan graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2008, with a Bachelor of Music majoring in Classical Composition. While studying he was a part of the University Fellowship of Christians (Previously known as FOCUS). This is where he spent most of his time hanging out during his studies, as part of the student committee, team-leading the Conservatorium Christian Group, and attending weekly meetings. It was in his first year of uni, through the ministry of UFC and the encouragement of close friends, that he made a personal commitment to following Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.
From 2010 Alan will be working for the University Fellowship of Christians is as a first year apprentice under Mikey Lynch, as a part of AFES, the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
Alan is a member of Wellspring Anglican Church in Sandy Bay, where he actively takes part in Resonate, the 6pm evening service. He is a drummer on the Resonate worship team, and is also a service co-ordinator and small group leader.
Alan’s passions include music, people, and Jesus. All of which, as you would expect, play an important part of his life. He has a healthy relationship with road cycling and English Football (although Mikey would disagree) and he is an Arsenal fan (but don’t hold that against him).
About University Fellowship of Christians
The University Fellowship of Christians is a part of the Tasmanian University Union and is a member of the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical students.
The University Fellowship of Christians is committed to making the gospel of Christ known to the Hobart campus of the University of Tasmania and investing in the development of future pastors and missionaries for the world.
About AFES
The Challenge
Universities in Australia are full of students who are poised to make life-changing decisions about what they believe and where they are heading. AFES works in this God-given window of opportunity to reach students for Christ.
The Fellowship
AFES employs staff to help and encourage students in their Christian growth and witness, and has student groups on campuses in every state and territory in Australia. Groups hold a variety of activities, such as regular public Bible talks, smaller Bible studies, prayer groups, mid-year conferences and outreach events.
AFES provides materials to students for evangelism and Bible study, and releases various publications such as Salt Magazine and the email prayer resource, Prayernet.
The Mission
To promote the mission of Christ in Australian universities by building evangelical student groups that:
- evangelise students by proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord
- encourage growth toward maturity in Christ
- train students in the skills and character to serve Jesus and his people
- send graduates throughout Australia and the world to serve Christ
